The Interdictor Assault Variant was a heavily armed adaptation of the standard Interdictor-class Star Destroyer, developed to overcome the primary weakness of traditional interdiction vessels. While retaining the signature gravity well projectors capable of preventing enemy ships from entering hyperspace or pulling them from hyperspace, the Assault Variant restored much of the firepower expected of an Imperial capital ship. This allowed it to both trap hostile fleets and actively engage them without relying as heavily on escorting Star Destroyers

Role in the Imperial Fleet
The Interdictor Assault Variant served as both a battlefield control vessel and a frontline combat ship within the Imperial Navy. Unlike standard Interdictors, which depended heavily on escorting warships for protection, the Assault Variant possessed significantly greater offensive firepower, allowing it to engage enemy capital ships while simultaneously denying them the ability to escape into hyperspace. Its combination of gravity well projectors and enhanced weapons made it ideal for spearheading blockades, ambushing Rebel task forces, and securing strategic objectives
